How to remove EXIF data from photos (iPhone, Android and browser)
CleanAILabel Team2 min read
EXIF is a technical ID card that cameras and phones write into every photo. You rarely see it, but it goes wherever the file goes.
What EXIF contains
- Device make and model, lens details
- Capture date and time
- Location (GPS coordinates)
- The name of the editing software — including AI tools
- Device and lens serial numbers, and a small preview image
Remove it in one step in your browser
CleanAILabel cleans EXIF from JPG, PNG and WebP files in your browser. Only the orientation tag is kept, so your photo doesn't turn sideways. With "Keep my camera details" on, device, lens and capture date stay too; location, software name and serial numbers are always removed.
On your phone
- iPhone: when sharing from Photos, tap "Options" at the top and turn off "Location" — this removes location only.
- Android: turn off location tagging in your camera settings to stop new photos from recording it.
Keeping quality intact
Some tools re-save and recompress the photo to strip EXIF. CleanAILabel only removes the metadata segments; the image data stays byte-for-byte identical.
