What this tool does — and doesn't
CleanAILabel only reads and removes the metadata inside a file. It doesn't touch the image pixels, and all processing happens in your browser.
What we can do
- Remove C2PA / Content Credentials blocks.
- Remove AI markers inside XMP and IPTC (such as digital source type or creator tool).
- Delete the software name, location, serial numbers and thumbnail from EXIF.
- Delete the prompt and workflow data that tools like Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI write into PNG files.
What we can't do
- Detect or remove invisible watermarks embedded in pixels (such as Google SynthID).
- Influence the decisions of platforms' own AI-detection models.
- Delete cloud-based provenance records or information a platform has already stored.
- Certify whether an image is real or AI-generated.
No guarantee of effectiveness
Platforms' AI-detection methods change over time, so we can't guarantee that a platform won't label an image after its metadata has been cleaned.
Examples of legitimate use
- Removing location data from a photo before sharing it.
- Correcting a false label caused by a small AI edit (such as noise reduction) to a real photo.
- Not sharing unnecessary details like device, serial number or software.
Legal responsibility
You are responsible for having rights to the files you process, for how you use processed images, and for complying with applicable law. Using the tool to mislead others, spread fake content or avoid a legal disclosure obligation is prohibited; see our acceptable use policy.
Platform rules
Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other platforms may require realistic AI content to be disclosed. Posting against these rules can lead to labels, reduced reach or account penalties. Review each platform's rules before posting.
A note on the EU AI Act
The European Union's AI Act requires certain AI content — such as "deepfakes" that imitate real people or events — to be disclosed as AI-generated. Removing labels to avoid this obligation may be unlawful. This page is not legal advice.
