What is HEIC — and how to convert iPhone photos to JPG

CleanAILabel Team2 min read

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. The format saves space, but it doesn't open everywhere.

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is an image format that uses HEVC compression. At the same quality it takes roughly half the space of a JPG, and it can carry extras such as depth and HDR data.

The catch: many websites, older Windows versions and some apps can't open HEIC files or reject them on upload.

Converting HEIC to JPG

  • Open the HEIC to JPG converter and drop your photos in.
  • Conversion happens in your browser; photos are never uploaded to any server.
  • The colour profile is kept and location data is removed. With "Keep my camera details" on, device and capture date carry over to the JPG.
  • Convert several photos at once and download them as a ZIP.

Prefer to keep HEIC?

If you only want to remove AI markers and location without changing the format, use the main AI label remover: your HEIC is cleaned and downloads as HEIC, with no recompression.

A permanent fix on iPhone

Choose Settings → Camera → Formats → "Most Compatible" and your iPhone will save new photos as JPG.
